March 2009 : the framing for propping the vault is built. Half the vault is to be removed so it must be fully supported until all the new steel is in.
March 2009: The first prop.

April 2009 : ....and more

April 2009: The top of the vault is excavated.
May 2009: The bricks are removed from the parts of the vault that will be opened up. The top side of Inscapes timber and steel formwork is now revealed. The coal chute that will become a light chute can be seen on the right.
May 2009: The supports for the new steel work are built up and the edges of the cut vault re-built. This photo shows the original coal chute which will become a pavement window letting light down into the vault.
May 2009: the edges of the flying section of vault are made good.
May 2009: Steels which will take the thrust from the flying section of vault are put in place. The thrust will be put back into the vault with wedges over the next few weeks.
May 2009: The stair slot is taken down and steel built in.
May 2009: The props come out from under the 'flying' bit of vault. It stays up - even better!
May 2009 : space to move again in the vault.
June 2009 : the light chutes (which will bring light down to the vault) start to be opened up.
July 2009 : first framing out around the stair slot.
July 2009 : The vault walls are lined and tanked.
July 2009 : Looking down the new hole!
July 2009: The second light chute is opened up and the new floor goes in. the triangular slot will eventually be glazed to give light to the bathroom.
July 2009: Its a small site - Mike the foreman has his tea.
Aug 2009: The new light chute has been formed and the walls between the vaulted rooms are going up.
Aug 2009 : the light chutes end under the pavement
Aug 2009 : the light chutes from outside with new stonework around. The near chute was originally the coal chute, the further away one is completely new.
Aug 2009: The framing and lining that will contrast with the rough brick and stonework starts to take shape
Aug 2009 : Lining the old stone walls and forming the top of the stair well.
Sept 2009 : The in-situ framing for the stair is formed.
Sept 2009 : A bridge is formed over the new stair slot. this will have a glazed balustrade edge.
Sept 2009 : The treads and risers are fixed to the stair frame. the recess at the top is for the boiler and will have a flush door.
Sept 2009: Looking up the stair slot towrads the kitchen space.

Sept 2009: New partitioning around the bathroom. The plywood on the roof will be an etched glass wedge in the floor above.

Nov 2009: The front door on the left is seperated from the dining space in the middle of this photo by a coat store which also houses various light sources.
Nov 2009 : Looking back from the dining space towards the living area. The gaps in the floor let light down to the underground level.
Nov 2009 : The stair 'slot' is cut into the original vault in line with the original coal chute which is in the middle of this photo.
