A variation on the Jordanhill Sitootery, but with a kitchen thrown in. It connects the original house to the garden which was geographically separated from the house. Completed Autumn 2006.
HOUSE REFURBISHMENT, ISLE OF COLL, HEBRIDES
This traditional Victorian farmhouse is being totally refurbished. The proposal is that one part of the farmhouse retains it’s traditional character, while the other half is transformed with the insertion of a glass living and dining room which pushes through the house, pulling light into the otherwise dark interior. The new living room is aligned with views of the sea and of a small loch over a proposed garden. A large dormer, reminiscent of a ship’s bridge offers views of the sea from the first floor. Unrealised in this form
REMODELLING OF MILL, PERTHSHIRE
These are unrealised designs for a two storey high kitchen courtyard is being created in this long low stone mill building. The existing building is generally dark and the new courtyard allows great amounts of light in from both sides of the building. The kitchen is overlooked by small shuttered windows in the bedroom and bathroom above it.
FLAT REFURBISHMENT, EDINBURGH
Two rooms in this New Town flat were joined to create a big new family kitchen/dining room, and the remainder of the flat was totally refurbished. The kitchen has a central dining area with a high ceiling and the workings of the kitchen are arranged around the perimeter which has a lower ceiling. These working areas are largely concealed behind moveable solid and translucent screens, double-sided pigeon holes and utensil hanging racks. A storage unit down one wall is a modern take on the traditional kitchen dresser. Project undertaken in collaboration with architect Oliver Chapman.
HAYBARN CONVERSION, ISLE OF COLL, HEBRIDES
A new house is to be built within the walls of this roofless barn complex. The new house wraps around a new sheltered courtyard which was originally also inside the former barn. A large open plan living room sits over cosy wood lined bedrooms, and an elegant new roof structure is to be formed out of round boom struts and steel cables. Awaiting construction.
FLAT REFURBISHMENT, ROYAL MILE , EDINBURGH
With un-interrupted views of Prince’s Street and the Firth of Forth, this top floor flat was to be remodelled as a form of long gallery in the sky. The new living area was to have new dormer windows looking east and west and the north gable was to be peeled away to heighten the experience of a rooftop eyrie. The kitchen was contained within a simple cabinet, that could be shut down when not in use.
