The small seaside town of Elie is proving to be a fruitful source of exciting new work for us! In part due to the success of our award-winning beach house there, we have secured two further projects over the past few months. Both new projects comprise the extension and alteration of existing historic buildings.
This latest commission involves the demolition of a ghastly plastic conservatory on the B-Listed house, which is to be replaced by a more contemporary living and dining extension. The existing house benefits from an enclosed seaward courtyard, protected from the crashing surf by a massive sandstone sea wall. The proposed extension has been designed to develop a strong relationship with this sea wall, with a form and materiality that echoes defensive maritime structures.
